What can I convert?
Two kinds of file: an .html page — positioned text, images, inline SVG shapes, and boxes with backgrounds or borders — or a plain .md Markdown doc, which we lay out for you with headings, paragraphs, lists, and images.
Can I convert HTML generated by AI?
Yes — that's actually where idmlx fits best. Tools like Claude or ChatGPT tend to output a single self-contained page with inline or positioned styling, which is exactly the shape idmlx expects. Render it in a browser first if it depends on JavaScript to draw itself, then drop in the resulting page.
Do I need InDesign installed to convert?
No. Conversion runs headless on our side. You only need InDesign to open the .idml file you get back.
What happens to my fonts?
We automatically match each web font to its closest InDesign equivalent. If we don't recognize a font, your text still comes through in a fallback font — never missing, just easy to swap once the file's open.
What page size do I get?
By default the page matches your HTML's own content size. Ask for a fixed size instead — A4, Letter, or custom points — and we'll export to that instead.
Is this free forever?
Right now, yes — we're in early access with no paywall. Pricing may show up later if we add hosted conversion at scale, but nothing changes without notice.
